Q: What ages can attend the course?
A: Our ‘Little Explorer’ camps are for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Our ‘Adventurer’ camps are suitable for children in school Years 3-8 (although for May and Summer Adventures as long as they are 7 they can attend even if still in Year 2).
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: If you cancel at least 4 weeks before the start of the course then we will refund you in full. After this point we can only offer a refund if we manage to re sell the place.
Q: Can I get a refund if my child is sick on the day?
A: We are unable to offer a refund for children who are sick on the day. This is a small family business and we cannot absorb lots of last minute refunds. If we can fill the place last minute we will of course refund that day in full.
Q: Do you offer a discounts for NHS workers and the military?
A: Yes if you hold a Blue Light Card or Defence Discount Card we can offer 15% off any booking. This only applies to your children. Please enter BLUELIGHT or DEFENCE at checkout to redeem this discount. You then need to email your card to info@theoxfordboatadventure.co.uk for the booking to be approved.
Q: do children need to be able to swim?
A: All children attending an ‘Adventurer’ camp will need to be able to swim. All children wear buoyancy aids while on the water. Children attending our ‘Little Explorers’ are not expected to be confident swimmers. When they visit the Island on the raft and when they go out Dingy Rowing, they wear a buoyancy aid and are with a member of staff at all times.
Q: What food is provided?
A: Parents should provide a packed lunch, 2 suitable snacks and a water bottle with a covered mouthpiece. Please note we are a nut free course. Some of our Adventures include food, for example pizza on the Island and marshmallows round the fire. We do cater for all dietary needs but please ensure any allergies are included in the booking form when prompted so we can plan for them.
Q: What time does the day start and end?
A: Drop off is between 8.45 - 9.00am and pick up is 4.30pm.
Q: What happens if it rains?
A: Being outside in all weather conditions is very much part of the experience. There will be plenty of covered places to dry off and get warm during any wet spells. In the event of a thunderstorm everybody will take cover in a safe place until it is safe to resume activities.
Q: What facilities does the site have?
A: Children will have access to toilets and a safe indoor area where they can keep their belongings and shelter if there is a bad weather.
Q: Are all the staff DBS checked?
A: Yes, all our staff are carefully vetted for their suitability to work with children and required to hold an Enhanced DBS check.
Q: What other safeguarding measures are there in place?
A: Safeguarding and Child Protection are our top priority when designing and running the course. All staff undertake safeguarding training prior to working on our courses. Our Safeguarding Officer is Amelia Wright (Tel 07979 592753) and all safeguarding/child protection concerns should be directed to her. Staff also undergo a first aid course prior to the first day of the course. We have several qualified first aiders on our team. The nearest AED is in the cricket pavilion on the recreation ground in Dorchester on Thames, 300 yards over the bridge from the farm.
